How to Use KML Files on WISroGIS Maps
WISroGIS can be used to quickly publish your KML files. You can use both local and/or remote KML files.
Before doing that, you need to upload the KML file to your website, into images/gis/ folder. You can do that by using a file manager to upload the file to server; the alternative is to use the Joomla's Media Manager
- Create and upload the KML file to your website, into images/gis/ folder. You can do that by using a file manager to upload the file to server; the alternative is to use the Joomla's Media Manager
- Go to Layers Manager and create a new Layer; select KML Layer as type, set it as Overlay, then select the KML File source from the list of the available KML files (images/gis/ directory on your server); make sure the layer is published then save it
- Create a new map or use an existing one to add the above created KML layer
- Check the map in the website's frontend
To use remote KML loading, please fill in the KML URL field. This will be used instead of the above KML local file, if any. Proxy usage must be enabled and properly configured to allow the KML URL to load from entered location.
If using the Media Manager, your site the .kml extension must be allowed for file upload in site's configuration, see Configuration, System, Media Settings, Legal Extensions (File Types)
The KML file used as sample is showing visitors on map; the information is displayed from a static KML file, it is not intended to show latest visitors or up-to-date map positioning. The KML was obtained from the WISroGIS Visitors plugin, for a live example of visitors details please click here.
