WISroGIS is an extension designed for Joomla 1.5/1.7/2.5 that allows fast integration of common GIS formats to be shown on interative maps in Joomla! Content Management System.
It’s core it is based on OpenLayers – an open source JavaScript library for displaying map data in web browsers.
WISroGIS offer support for most commercial mapping sources, as Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, Bing Maps (former Virtual Earth), OpenStreetMap and more.
Besides these maps, the user may access map data sources through the standard geospatial web services, such as WMS.
The maps can be used – embeded into Joomla articles – to present various locations or overlay any kind of geospatial information – places of interest, business locations.

WISroGIS can be used to quickly publish your KML files. You can use both local and/or remote KML files.
Before doing that, you need to upload the KML file to your website, into images/gis/ folder. You can do that by using a file manager to upload the file to server; the alternative is to use the Joomla's Media Manager
You can use WISroGIS to create custom maps and publish in your site your own high resolution images. To achieve best performance, the images are loaded using Zoomify file format.
Zoomify works by slicing an image into many pieces or 'tiles' - as in a mosaic. Zoomify performs this dicing on many versions of the image, each at a different resolution or size. The result is a pyramid of tiles (a set of folders and images) which a web site visitor can navigate within to view any part of the image at any level of zoom. Viewing is fast and interactive because each view that the visitor zooms and pans to involves the download of only a small number of image tiles, each of which is small in size (see the Zoomify FAQs page for more details).
Show the use of the custom layer to access a map cache provided in spherical mercator by ESRI (from ESRI's server).
WISroGIS requires Joomla 1.5/1.6/1.7 installed and running on your web server.
